Ganga Sagar Mela (fair), Calcutta  is organized at the confluence of the river Ganges and the Bay of Bengal at a place named Sagar which  is about 105 km south of Calcutta. Saints and pilgrims from different parts of the country take part in this fair. They visit the famous temple of Kapil Muni.They also  take a holy dip in the sea on the Makara Sankranti day.The Ganga Sagar Mela or fair is spread over nearly 25 square km and administration made elaborate security arrangement. Makar Sankranti is celebrated in the last day of the Bengali month of Poush.
