Completion of one year
Just a year ago,on this day (May 13),the assembly election results of Bengal proved that the people of Bengal believed that Bengal needs a change. Mamata Banerjee was sworn in as the first woman chief minister of West Bengal heading a TMC-Indian National Congress(INC) alliance government, ending the 34 years rule by Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Front on May 20.
According to experts, during the tenure of 34-year-long tenure of CPI(M) led Left Front government, it was struggling to retain its hold over the state because its misrule has caused deterioration of law and order and political disorder. She declared,“We will give good governance. There will be democracy, not autocracy.” But recent whimsical seemingly irrational decisions and statements by Mamata Banarjee and her colleagues affect the credibility of the government.
The Constitution of India provides for the establishment of the parliamentary form of government both at the Center and in the states. Like the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister is a real functionary. He or she occupies an unique position in the Indian Constitution. According to Article 163(1) of the Indian Constitution, there will be a Council of Ministers with the Chief Minister at the head to advise the Governor in the exercise of his or her functions.
