Just a year ago, on this day(Sept 21),a body of a young man found dead near railway track near Calcutta in the state of west Bengal after accusing his rich in laws of threatening him, provoked a mob attack on police and cars in Park circus, a Muslim dominated area (Sept 22) .Hours earlier,Rizwanur Rehman’s family and the local citizens committee in Tiljala had filed separate complaints with Karaya police Station demanding a probe into the role of his father-in-law,businessman Ashok Todi,in the mysterious death.Rizwanur, 30, was found dead between Dumdum and Bidhannagar Road railway station.The body covered with injury marks and head smashed a month after marring Tody’s daughter against her families wishes.

The youth had accused Lalbazar, the police head quarter of Calcutta police of pressuring her wife Priyanka Todi to return to her father and threatening to arrest Rizwanur for kidnapping if she didn’t return , accused his family and an NGO whose help he had sought. According to the Association for Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR), Rizwanur’s complaint says that Assistant Commissioner (anti rowdy section) Sukanti Chakraborty and deputy commissioner (head quarter) Gywant Singh had tried persuasion. Later City Detective Chief Ajay Kumar issued the arrest threat on September prompting the girl to go back for seven days to Todi’s Saltlake home from where she never returned.
23 September olice Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee stormed out of a media conference unable to answer questions about his force’s interference in the marital life of Rizwanur (30) and Priyanks Todi (23) .He declared that Rizwanur committed sucide though the post-Morten report has not yet been made public.Communist party of India (Marxist) state secretary Biman Bose tried to defend that couple had a registered marriage.According to Rizwanur’s family ,Singh , Kumar and other police officer summoned Rizwanur and his wife Priyanka thrice in Lalbazar in less than two weeks
24 September:Chief minister of West Bengal Buddhadeb Bhattacharya on Monday summoned Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee in Writers Building and repeatedly rapped him for his comments on the Priyanka Todi -Rizwanur Rahman case.Soon after the meeting Bhattacharya order a CID(criminal Investigation Department) probe into Rizwanur’s death.
25 September:Top police officer of West Bengal police was aware of the threats issued by the anti-rowdy squad (ARS) of the city force to Sadique Hussian a witness to the marriage of Rizwanur amd Priyanka Todi .Sadique has complained that an ARS sub inspector Krishnendu Das had threaten him over the phone and urged him to say that Rizwanur had married Priyanka against her will .Sadique has also accused another ARS officer Assistant Commissioner Sukanti Chakrabarty of threatening him.The apex court has earlier asked the Police to protect adult couples if their families are against the marriage.
26 september: Rizwanur Rahman’s uncle told a public meeting that some Left Front leaders had offered the family money to hush up the Youth’s death.
27september:Chief Minister announced a judicial probe into the death of Rizwanur Rahaman,saying the money power and communal angles to be investigated.
28september:Priyanka Todi has told Investigators that she still loved Rizwanur and could not believe he could leave her by herself.Priyanka daughter of businessman Ashok Todi also confirmed Rizwanur’s complaint mentioned that the couple were under pressure from her family and senior police officers.CID officials who visited the Todi residence at Saltlake recorded her statement for over three hours.According to her father broke the news of Rizwanur’s death to her on September 21 the day his body was discovered .Priyanka told the sleuths that her father came to Rizwanur’s Tiljala lane house on August 31hours after she left her parents and informed them of her marriage .In here statement Priyanka’s said she agreed to meet her father after hearing that he was ill and left thee Tiljala home on September 8.
29 September: Two police officials accused of pressuring Rizwanur Rahman to end his marriage with Priyanka Todi informed the CID that they were only following instructions from their superiors.

30 September: The CID questioned Todi, Rizwanur Rahman’s father -in-law for the second time on Sunday about the discrepancies in his statements and that of his brother and a few senior officers of the city.Todi was earlier grilled on thursday six days after Rizwanur was found dead on railway tracks near Bidhannagar .The sleuths decided to summon Todi for the second time after grilling tow anti rowdy squad(ARS) officers .Home Secretary Prasad Ranjan Roy asserted that police Commissioner the deputy commissioner of police(headquarters) Gyanwant Singh and the deputy commissioner of police (detective department ) Ajoy Kumar summoned be the CID in connection with the death.

Later CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) took over the case.But said after investigation,that he committed suicide,and charged his father-in-law,business magnate Ashok Todi and six other including three police officers,with abatement to suicide.A special court in Calcutta took cognizance of the CBI chargesheets in the Rizwanur case on Monday(22 Sept.) and issued summons to the seven accused.But his family still believe that he was murdered.
