Id-ul Zuha

Id-ul-Zuha celebrated across the country today (August 31)y with great enthusiasm and devotion Calcutta wear festive look. The word ‘id’ derived from the Arabic ‘iwd’ means ‘festival’ and zuha comes from ‘uzhaiyya’ which means ‘sacrifice’The festival also called Bakrid.  Special prayers are going on in Mosques. After the prayer they great each other with gifts.
According to legend, Prophet Ibrahim decided to sacrifice his son Ismail, at Mina, near Mecca. As the great religious leader was ready to apply the sword to the throat of his son, he came to know that Allah ordered him to sacrifice his dearest one. Now, he could sacrifice a ram instead.Thus,Id-ul-Zuha is a reminder of Prophet Ibrahim’s readiness to sacrifice his son for God’s sake. It also marks the completion of Haj (pilgrimage to Mecca). Id-ul-Zuha is celebrated from the tenth to the twelfth day of Zil hijja.

Try to be different

As professional journalists, we should know how to use the Internet. We should have knowledge that online research is an art and we must do it properly.Small or mid sized newspapers or magazines who have not afford to buy news from news agencies and other sources should not use copy righted materials. After all, plagiarism is not acceptable. They should use (download) royalty free photographs from specialized websites.Similarly, they should only publish permissible articles. They must know that they can only use subscription based archival materials. Always remember that we can not or should not use copy righted materials. After all, plagiarism is not acceptable. For this purpose, they can use meta search or extreme engines rather than google or other popular search engines. There is a misconception that we can use any information from the Internet. We should also follow the guidelines provided by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA).

I always prefer to work in small or mid-sized newspapers, magazines or TV stations because there I can torn up the conventional news structures or my editors allow me to experiment with unconventional story angle as they are not market leaders in news.So they may have little to lose in experimenting with unconventional news structure.
In Calcutta,I am sorry to say that local newspapers or magazines or TV stations follow the same thing. The structure of news has change a lot in recent years. In the era of multi media journalism, digital correspondents, why we stick to the time tested journalism? we should ask ourselves. To change the structure,I highlight the changing scenario of India’s underground sex industry in my writings. After all, the computer savvy call girls of India as well as Calcutta take different approaches to woo customers unlike their traditional counterparts.

I may be a regional reporter, but I should be a global outlook. Why regional media takes traditional approaches and behave like regional media? They should learn from their American counterparts. They avoid sting operations and follow the same news structures.I get story ideas and brush up my journalism skill by reading regional newspapers or watching local TV stations around the world. In this digital age,I’m a global citizen.I try to follow ‘start with emotion rather than facts’ style.Always remember, now-a-days,we don’t need good reporters but reporters who think differently.

Copy right infringement is a major issue

Small newspapers, magazines or TV stations should have their own identity. Unfortunately in Calcutta, very few people know how to produce a professional, commercially viable newspapers, magazines or TV stations with shoe string budget. We should not follow market leaders. The best option is to torn up the conventional structure to attract readers or viewers. I personally believe that . So, I only take permissible and royal-tee fee pictures & articles from the internet. I use my experience as an online journalist to procure articles and pictures. I usually avoid popular search engines like Google and try less popular or little known websites. I occasionally use an image website which categorically states which images are copy righted or OK for commercial purpose. I think we should learn how to use the internet properly when we haven’t have the budget to buy pictures or article. We can not or should not procure copy righted materials. Some people think that they can download anything from Internet.
I have the satisfaction that as an one man army, I at least produce a commercial magazine without spending any extra amount. At the same time, I must admit that it’s a tough task. But, I am trying to amalgamate journalism with online journalism. My conscience does not permit me to indulge in plagiarism. I do believe that small magazines should not have any target audience. As a small magazine we have little to lose experimenting with unconventional structure.
